This means that we have to act now to reduce emissions globally. Your great country is producing a lot of coal for export. You have the worlds fifth largest amount of reserves so this is understandable. The burning of coal is affecting us all, with increased emissions of CO2 are now at 407 parts per million. They have shot up since the 1960's and are now the highest they have been for the last 800,000 years. That’s 10,000 of your lifetimes if you lived to 80 each time. The UN secretary general António Guterres has sounded the alarm: “Climate change is the defining challenge of our time. Time is fast running out for us to avert the worst impacts of climate disruption and protect our societies.” Please can I encourage you to do your bit for the planet and stop digging up and exporting coal.
